The System of Action
Yesterday, I showed you a key structural transition across the software industry by looking at where Salesforce is headed next.
Now, I want to show you what comes next, as one of the most valuable pieces of the software industry as it gets redefined.
For roughly three decades, enterprise technology organized itself around a single structural logic: whoever owned the system of record owned the customer. Salesforce built a revenue base of over $40 billion based on this principle. SAP, Oracle, Workday, ServiceNow — each claimed a domain of truth and charged per seat for the privilege of accessing it. The entire SaaS economy rested on a simple chain:
System of record → UI → apps → APIs.
Humans navigated the stack through screens, and vendors monetized human attention through seat licenses.
That chain is breaking. Not because the data becomes less valuable — it doesn’t. But because the interface through which work gets done is shifting from human navigation to agent orchestration. And when that happens, the point of maximum value capture migrates from where data is stored to where intent is interpreted and action is coordinated.
This is the emergence of what I call the System of Action — the orchestration layer that:
Understands intent — interprets what needs to happen across the organization
Decomposes tasks — breaks complex goals into discrete agent assignments
Coordinates execution — manages specialized agents working across multiple systems simultaneously
Handles exceptions — adapts when plans fail, reroutes work, escalates when needed
Reports outcomes — closes the loop between intent and result
It is the new commanding height of enterprise technology.
I sit down with you to understand what business goals you want to achieve in the coming months, then map out the use cases, and from there embed the BE Thinking OS into the memory layer of ChatGPT or Claude, for you to become what I call a Super Individual Contributor, Manager, Executive, or Solopreneur.
If you need more help in assessing whether this is for you, feel free to reply to this email and ask any questions!
